Daughter of William J. Horton and Elizabeth L. Baker, wife of Edward F. Bishop, whom she married about 1863, and mother of Edna Frances (married Frank Horton Guttridge), Ethelyn Carrie (married Seward L. Parsons), Charles Frederick, and Loolah J. Bishop (married Frank E. Bishop).

Second wife of Charles Henry Cozzens, the son of Nathaniel Winslow Cozzens and Mary E. Jackson, whom she married about 1891.

In 1860, Elizabeth Horton, aged 16, was living in Brookhaven, NY, post office Patchogue, in the home of her widowed father, William J. Baker, aged 44, with siblings, Charles Horton, aged 14, Catherine Horton, aged 12, and Mary Horton, aged 8. Also living in the household was her maternal grandmother, Catherine Baker, aged 72. Her father was shown to be an oysterman.

In 1865, Lizzie A. Bishop, aged 21, was living in Brookhaven, New York, with her husband, Edward F. Bishop, aged 30, no occupation, and son, Francis A. Bishop, aged 1 year, 1 month, in the home of Elizabeth (Rhodes) Ruland, aged 50, and Lucinda (Albin) Petty, aged 99.

In 1870, Elizabeth Bishop, aged 26, was living in Brookhaven, New York, post office Port Jefferson, with her husband, Edward Bishop, aged 30, no occupation, and children, Frances Bishop, aged 6, and Carmeta Bishop, aged 2, in the home of Samuel Rowley, aged 26, a fisherman, and his wife, Emeline Rowley, aged 26, and their son, Everett Rowley, aged 10.

In 1900, Elizabeth Cozzens, aged 58, born July 1842 in New York, was living at 183 Transit Street in Providence, Rhode Island, with her husband, Charles Cozzens, aged 60, born March 1840 in Rhode Island, who was shown to be an oyster opener. They had been married for 9 years and she was shown to be the mother of 5 children, 4 living.

On March 7, 1903, Elizabeth A. Cozzens filed for widow's benefits after the death of her husband, Charles H. Cozzens, of Company A, 11th Rhode Island Infantry. Invalid benefits had been previously filed on September 22, 1890.

Obituary - Patchogue, L.I., February 26- Mrs. Elizabeth Cozzens died Wednesday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Bishop, on Lakewood Street. Her death was unexpected, although Mrs. Cozzens was in her 71st year. Four daughters survive, Mrs. Frank Bishop, Mrs. Frank Guttridge of Patchogue, Mrs. Seward Parsons of Brooklyn and Mrs. Charles Bishop of Morris Park; a brother, Captain William Horton of Brooklyn, and two sisters, Miss Cassie Horton of Patchogue and Mrs. Wallace Homan of Sayville. The deceased was an old resident here, having been the daughter of William Horton, well known at the time of his death. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2, the Rev. L.H. Johnson officiating. Interment was in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Burial Record - Elizabeth Cozzens, born July 31, 1844, died on February 24, 1915 in Patchogue, and was buried in Patchogue by Ruland Funeral Home. Her funeral included a hearse and 4 wagonettes, totaling $113, paid for by Frank Bishop.
