Former Resident, Roy Armstrong, Succumbs in Provo
Roy L. Armstrong, 88, long-time resident of Cedar City and Enoch, died in a hospital at Provo, Wednesday, Aug. 7, following surgery.
Funeral services will be held in Provo Third Ward Chapel at 2 p.m. Friday, after which the body will be brought to Cedar City for burial.
Friends may call at the Southern Utah Mortuary, Friday from 8 until 10 p.m.. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. when brief services will be held at the cemetery if weather permits, and otherwise at the mortuary.
Mr. Armstrong was born in Cedar City on August 5, 1880, a son of Joseph and Mary Ann Smith Armstrong. He spent his early life at Johnson's Fort, near Enoch. He filled a mission for the LDS Church in the Southern States from 1902 to 1905. At the time of his death he was a member of the High Priests of the Provo Third Ward.
He married Mary Wood, of Cedar City, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 16, 1912, and they made their home in this area until 1951.
Survivors include his widow, three sons, Ellis L., Salt Lake City; George W., Bellflower, California, and Willard W., Salt Lake City; and two daughters, Mrs. Jonas (Rela) Erickson, Kansas City; and Mrs. Shirl (Anna) Evans, Sylmar, California. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
