From the Weekly Clarion, Jackson, Miss., January 7, 1897, p. 7:

DEATH OF LEE FRANTZ.
This Sturdy Young Man Pays the Last Debt of Nature.
The community was surprised late Thursday evening to hear of the death of Lee Frantz, it being hard to realize that one so vigorous and young, whose face and general appearance denoted strength and a powerful constitution, and promise of long life, could have so suddenly passed away.
He died about six o’clock, at the residence of his brother, E. E. Frantz, in North Jackson, having been confined to his room for five weeks with typhoid fever. His friends knew he was seriously ill but had never supposed that he was so near death’s door.
Everybody liked Lee Frantz, for he was always genial, courteous and pleasant, having a kind word for all, and his death, in the days of his youthful manhood and vigorous prime, will be deeply regretted by a host of sincere friends here and at his old Brandon home.
He was 22 years of age, the third son of the Late Col. A. J. Frantz, and Mrs. Jennie Frantz, and was a young man of fine intelligence and good education.
He was buried from the residence of his brother that evening at three o’clock, the interment taking place in the city cemetery, the family lot in Brandon being entirely occupied by others, Dr. Dubose performing the last sad rites.
The Capitol Light Guards, of which he was a member, attended the funeral in a body in full uniform.
The following were the pall-bearers: Antone Spengler, Bob Stockton, Will Muh, Kerb Mallet, Jonie Hamilton, Willis Chiles, Tom Henry, Eugene Reber.
