George J. Michels, age 82, of Kiel, died Sunday evening, December 25, 2016 at Willowdale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, New Holstein where he resided the past 1 ½ years. He was born on February 2, 1934 in Sheboygan, son of the late Joseph and Anna (Ristenpadt) Michels. He attended Sheboygan schools. On July 12, 1966 he married Mary J. Frost at Hoven, South Dakota. George had worked at Tecumseh Products, New Holstein for 35 years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. George enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and karaoke. Survivors include his wife, Mary, two sons: Vern (Sue) Michels, Robin Michels, grandchildren, Jake (Felisha) Michels, their son, Tanner, and one on the way, Jessica (Eric) Hartenberger, Zack (Theresa) Michels and their son, Bryson and one sister, Mary (Merlin) Grunewald. He was preceded in death by one sister and brother-in-law, Marcella (Robert) Schaetzer. Cremation has taken place. Burial will follow at SS Peter & Paul Cemetery. Family and friends may gather at the Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, 815 6th St., Kiel, on Saturday, January 7, 2017 from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. George's family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Willowdale for the care and compassion shown to George and to Meiselwitz Funeral Home for all their assistance.
