PIONEER WOMAN OF NEWTON IS DEAD, AGED 74.
Mrs. Sophia, widow of John Vogt, pioneer resident of the town of Newton, died yesterday after a lingering illness brought on by the infirmities of old age. She died at the home of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Henry Vogt, who resides on the old homestead.
The decedent was born in Germany July 22, 1847, and came to this country in 1869, locating in the town of Newton where she has resided ever since.
Seven children survive. They are Mrs. William Buck, Mrs. Fred Krohn and Mrs. William Schuetze of this city and Mrs. Bertha Haupt, Mrs. Erwin Klemm, Herman and John Vogt, all of Newton. Thirty-one grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive.
The funeral will be held from St. John’s Lutheran church in Newton Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock, Rev. Toepel officiating.
