Eunice Priscilla Whitaker was born on April 14, 1926 in Tazewell, Tennessee. She was born from the union of the late Auda Whitaker and the late Minnie Lee (Estes) Whitaker. She graduated from Monroe High School.
Eunice married the love of her life, Homer Goins on June 28, 1947 in Toledo, Ohio. She cared for the needs of her husband and looked after their home with precision. Eunice was neat and organized, a stickler for the details. She had a warm and inviting personality and was always fun to be around. She enjoyed the company of her nieces and nephews and they looked forward to spending time with her.
Eunice enjoyed traveling and had spent time visiting Mexico, Canada and the Caribbean Islands in addition to many places throughout the United States. She enjoyed the open water and boating. Eunice loved to visit antique shops and garage sales trying to find special treasures.
Eunice loved the beauty of nature and often could be found watching the birds and squirrels from her window. Even with all the joys in her life one of her favorite pastimes was curling up and reading a good book.
Eunice Priscilla Goins, age 90 of Toledo passed away at home peacefully at 2:00am on Wednesday, December 28, 2016. She had been under the care of Southern Care Hospice. In addition to her parents her passing was preceded by her beloved husband: Homer Goins in 1995; her brother: Charles Whitaker; a brother-in-law: William Lauer; dog: Sandy; and cat: Mamma Cat.
To cherish her memory she leaves a sister: Bernice Lauer of Toledo; a sister-in-law: Carol Whitaker of Temperance; and several nieces and nephews including a special nephew: Matthew Lauer that provided her with exceptional and loving care.
Friends may gather from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2016 at Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe; 14567 South Dixie Highway (734) 241-7070. A Celebration of Her Life will follow at 2:00 p.m. also at Merkle's with Reverend Tim Iocoangeli, Associate Pastor of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle for burial.
