Many friends were in attendance at the funeral for the late John D. Holmes, from the home, on Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock. The death of Mr. Holmes was announced in the News of last week. The services were conducted by Rev. Abraham of Duanesburg and Rev. Smith of Margaretville, who also performed the divine service for Mrs. Holmes, who passed away Oct. 8th.The floral offerings were many and beautiful. The two funerals were in charge of the same ministers and conducted in the same manner, for husband and wife. Interment made in Downsville cemetery. Those from out of town who were present at the funeral were: Mrs. Archibald Holmes, Middletown; Mr, G. N. Rowe, Mrs. F. J. McMenamin, Oneonta; Mr and Mrs.Kaveda Holmes, Mrs. Kenneth Owens, Mrs Pommeroy, Walton; Miss Katherine Cortright, New York City; Mrs. W. E. Holmes, Brooklyn; Mr and Mrs. C. E. Young, Mrs. Wilbur Rutan, Mr. Edgar Young, Mr and Mrs. Willard Young, Elmira; Mr and Mrs. Charles Parsons, Painted Post;Mrs. Alice Bell, Mr. Edmund Bell, Union; Mrs. David Beard, Mrs. Smith, Cobleskill; Rev and Mrs. Abraham, Duanesburg; Rev. Smith, Margaretville. Mr and Mrs. Stewart Jones and Miss Winifred Jones of Schenectady were week-end guests of Mr and Mrs. A. H. Griffith.

(Note: Mrs. Willard Young is my grandmother Frances Holmes. My mother said that after Frances's mother passed away - her father sat outside her hospital room till the nurses finally got him to go home where he just sat till he passed - she said that he died of a broken heart)
