Mr. Carl Fischer, one of the early settlers of the town of Newton, died Monday
night, Aug. 1 at the age of 81 years. Mr. Fischer was born in Germany on the
15th of November, 1829. He came to America in 1857 and settled on the farm where
he died. Mr. Fischer was held in high esteem by all who knew him. The funeral
was held last Friday afternoon. Burial was at the German Lutheran cemetery in
Newton. Rev. Sieker performed the last sad rites. May he rest in peace.

ANOTHER PIONEER CALLED
Carl Fischer, Resident of English Lake, Dies at Age of 80
Another pioneer of Manitowoc County has been added to the long list of those who
have died this year. Carl, Fischer, a well known settler residing one-half mile
from English Lake, having passed away at the home of his son after a several
months illness, brought on by his advanced age, Mr. Ficher being over 80 years
old at the time of his death. He will be buried at Newton Friday. Mr. Ficher has
been a resident of the county for sixty years and for the past number of years has
made his home with his only son, William, who is the one surviving near relative.
During the winter his health failed and his decline has been steady, death
resulting Monday. Decedent was well known in this city and throughout the county.
