He graduated from BUHS, class of 1969 and was a Vietnam Combat Veteran having been with the Army from 1970-1971. Following his service with the Army, Ralph returned to school and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science, SDSU Class of 1973. He went on to become a teacher at Westmorland Elementary from 1974- 1980 before moving on to work as an Immigration Detention Center officer from 1980-1981. Shortly after, Ralph joined the U.S. Customs and Border Protection as an Inspector from 1981-2014.
Ralph enjoyed music of all kinds, especially Oldies, Trios, and Mariachi. He also enjoyed dancing, BUHS sports, Dodgers baseball, Rams football, breakfast foods, current affairs, had an active lifestyle and enjoyed drinking his Coors Light.
Visitation and Rosary are scheduled for Tuesday, April 26 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley. Mass will commence at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning at St. Margaret Mary Church in Brawley with Father Bernardo Lara officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Margarita Acuna of El Centro; sons, Ralph G. "Chachie" Acuna of San Francisco, CA and Guillermo "Willie" Acuna of Los Angeles, CA; daughters, Rebecca Alejandra Acuna of San Diego and Baleria Magana of Brownsville, TX; siblings, Manuel Acuna, Richard and Gina Acuna, Alex Acuna, and Delfina and Fred Grijalva; and grandchildren, Krystal, Silvino, Esperanza, Baleria, and Jacob.
