Sheila M. (Abel) Burkett, 61, of State Line, PA, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2017 at Johns Hopkins Medical Center, Baltimore, MD, after a long battle with cancer.
Born March 9, 1955 in Waynesboro, PA, she was the daughter of the late Elmer C. Abel and Vera G. (Livengood) Hickman, and her late step-father, James T. Hickman, and step-mother, Mary Abel of Waynesboro, PA.
She graduated from Greencastle Antrim HS with the class of 1974, and married James Burkett May 22, 1976 at a Methodist Church in State Line.
Sheila enjoyed gardening, watching her daytime soap operas and baking. Always searching for new and improved recipes on-line, and a successful coupon clipper, she made sure she was getting the best deal. She was a loving and caring person, never speaking a bad word about anyone, although she did have a mischievous side, and family and friends were often the recipient of her humorous pranks. She loved animals and especially enjoyed the company of her cats, Princess and Baby Boy.
In addition to her husband, and her step-mother, she is survived by a sister, Audrey L. Lester, and her husband, Del, of Gore, VA; a brother, Matthew J. Hickman, of Greencastle, PA; three step-sisters: Roberta Rogers, Martinsburg, WVA, Sue Grams, Waynesboro and Doris Smith, Front Royal, VA; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-great nieces.
In addition to her parents, and step-father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Timothy M. Hickman, and a step-brother, Thomas Hickman.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 7, 2017 in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521, S. Washington St. Greencastle, PA, with Rev. Guy W. Camp III, officiating. Burial will follow in Beautiful View Cemetery, State Line, MD.
There will be no public viewing; however the family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Friday, January 6th at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local ASPCA or to the American Cancer Society, Franklin & Fulton Co. Unit 924-N Colonial Ave. York, PA 17403.
