Mrs. Gail Kennedy age 78 of Carthage died at 2:42 a.m. Tuesday morning January 3, 2016 at the Riverview Regional Medical Center in Carthage of respiratory failure. She had been a patient there since December 28th.Eld. Charles Allen Gentry officiated at the 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon January 5th funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial followed beside her husband in the Garden of Gethsemane at Smith County Memorial Gardens.Mrs. Kennedy one of five children and was born Virginia Gail Boston in Carthage on August 1, 1938 and was the daughter of the late Peter Irvin Boston who died at the age of 67 on April 14, 1969 and Celestia Hazel Pettross Boston who died at the age of 67 on August 1, 1974.Three siblings preceded her in death, Mildred Gustine Boston Thackxton who died August 21, 1991 at the age of 65, Charles Henry Boston who died October 29, 2001 at the age of 72 and Brenda Joyce Boston Maynard who died February 7, 2002 at the age of 61.On August 9, 1957 at the home of the late Eld. Phocian Gibbs she was united in marriage to Defeated Creek Community native Derrel Delano Kennedy. He preceded her in death on July 28, 2009 at the age of 74 following almost 52 years of marriage.Mr. Kennedy was a former employee of Texas Boot Co., Genesco Incorporated and retired from the Overstreet-Hughes Co. in South Carthage.She was a saved non-denominational Christian.Mrs. Kennedy graduated from Smith County High School in 1956 where she was in the Beta Club, on the paper and office staffs, the Glee Club, a member of the Future Homemakers of America, Science Club and was also in the chorus, Pride of the Upper Cumberland Band and dance club.Surviving are her two sons, Richard Kennedy and wife Sabrina of Lebanon, James Kennedy and wife Carolyn Ellis Kennedy of the Cato Community; grandson, Joshua Adam Kennedy of Hermitage; sister, Mary Ann Boston Maynard and husband Hoyte of the Hogans Creek Community.sandersonfh.com
