John Allen Barr, II, age 62, of Brookport, Illinois, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2017, in his home.
He was honorably discharged from the United States Army and a retired Sergeant for the Illinois State Police.
John was an active member of the community. He spent many years volunteering with his local Fire Department and helping in local police programs at the schools.
He enjoyed watching granddaughters Felicity and Caden play ball, helping grandson Nate with Scouting activities, having deep conversations with nephew Connor about computers and music, but most of all he loved making his wife smile.
John is survived by his wife of 21 years, Debbie; six sons, Allen Barr of Eldorado, Chris (Alicia) Barr of Marion, J.J. Paro (Jennifer) Barr of Metropolis, Jason (Taylor) Barr of Harrisburg, Joshua Vinyard of Metropolis, Jacob (Clarissa) Vinyard and of Nashville Tennessee; two daughters, Laura (Nathan) Anderson of Metropolis, Jaci (James) Ouderkirk of Paducah Kentucky; 8 grandchildren; three sisters, Cherie (Donald) Tieri of Batavia, Kathie (Ken) Melka of LaGrange and Patty Mieldarski of Westmont IL; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Patricia Barr, and 3 grandchildren.
Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis are in charge of arrangements.
