William Leslie Attkisson, Sr.(Les), 83 of Thornburg, Virginia, passed away on Friday evening, December 30, 2016 at the MCV/VCU Health Center in Richmond. Born December 5, 1933 in Spotsylvania, he was the son of the late Nettie Attkisson and George Marshall. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Miller Attkisson and his wife Nettie. Mr. Attkisson was the owner of Attkisson Trucking and Attkisson Excavating in Northern Virginia for over 30 years. He later owned Attkisson Truck and Equiptment Sales in Thornburg for 27 years. His wife Mary worked by his side as co-owner of the businesses.
Mr. Attkisson was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a hard working man who didn’t retire until he was 82 years old. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, attending auctions, antique cars, local road trips, riding his grandchildren around on the gator and golf cart, family gatherings and his dog Kacie.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Lee Harlow Attkisson of Thornburg, one son, William Attkisson, Jr. and wife Lesa of Fredericksburg, four daughters, Brenda Frank and husband Rodney of Haymarket, Pamela Posey and husband Denny of Orange, Wanda Boyce and husband Don of Stafford, Cindy Holmes and husband Troy of Ammisville, fourteen grandchildren, Jennifer, Ashley, William, Daniel, Jonathan, Madison, Ktystal, mandy, Dana, Stephanie, Brittany, Katelyn, Lyndsie, Joshua, 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday January 7, 2017 at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Gordonsville with interment to follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
