Johnnie Candelaria, 86, of Winston, New Mexico, died Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at a hospice facility in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Born May 23, 1930 in Winston, New Mexico to Pedro and Nasaria (Gurulè) Candelaria.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Augustina Candelaria; parents, Pedro and Nasaria Candelaria; and brothers – Jose, Julian and Alex Candelaria. Survivors include his sons - Arthur (Grace) Candelaria of Downey, California and Steve (Tonya) Candelaria of Torrance, California; grandchildren - Christopher (Lisa) Candelaria of Nashville, Tennessee, Monique (Victor) Candelaria-Rubio of Hawthorne, California and Jordan of Torrance, California; great-grandchildren - Noah and Jasmine Rubio, and Katelyn Candelaria; brothers - Cosme and Ismael Candelaria; sisters - Julie G. Pettit, Josie G. Ball, Ava E. Newman, and Ramona Pasos; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Johnnie spent most of his life in Gardena, California raising his sons until his wife passed away on April 1, 1999. He then returned to Winston and has been there until his passing. Johnnie was loved by his friends and family and had a close, loving relationship with his brothers and sisters.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Chapel of Kirikos Family Funeral Home. A Prayer Vigil will follow at 6:00 PM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church led by Deacon Adam Sanchez. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at 10:00 AM celebrated by Rev. Don Hyatt, CSB. Rite of Committal will follow in the Chìz Cemetery in Chiz, NM. Serving as Casket Bearers will be Alex Candelaria, Julian Candelaria, Eddie Candelaria, Ronnie Boone, Carlos Pasos and Michael Boone. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Nick Ortega and Freddie Angulo.
