Peter Quinlan, 60, a resident of Windsor, passed away Wednesday morning, January 4 at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor.

He was born November 23, 1956 in Yonkers, NY the son of John P. and Julia (Nichols) Quinlan. He graduated from Arlington High School in Lagrangeville, NY and then attended Duchess Community College in Poughkeepsie, NY. He later attended SUNY Oneonta and then Adelphi University Hudson Valley Program in Poughkeepsie, NY where he earned his Master of Social Work degree. He then obtained the CASAC credentials for alcohol and drug counseling. He married Linda Righi in New Paltz, NY on September 13, 1986.

From 1988 to 1994, Mr. Quinlan served as Director of RECAP Alcohol Day Treatment Program in Middletown, NY and until 1998 worked as a drug and alcohol counselor at Pius XII outpatient clinic.

From 1998 until 2012, Peter was Director of Peoples Place a non-profit Food Pantry and Thrift Store in Kingston, NY. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Jack Quinlan and Charles Quinlan. He retired early due to a disability. Peter was also an EMT and member of the Wallkill, NY Ambulance Corps and served as an adjunct Social Work professor for Adelphi Hudson Valley Program in New York. He and his family moved from Wallkill, NY after 30 years back to Windsor in September of 2014. He was a strong environmental advocate and while in New York, enjoyed sailing with the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater and the Woody Guthrie Beacon Sloop Club. He was also fond of being a potter, camping, outdoor activities, and being at the ocean. He believed in helping people in their time of need and volunteered for many nonprofit and church organizations. He especially received great pleasure in spending time with his family and friends. Peter was a loving father and lifelong partner. Survivors include his wife, Linda Quinlan, two sons, Luke Quinlan and Joseph Quinlan, all of Windsor, two brothers, Patrick Quinlan and Matthew Quinlan, both of Cranston, RI, one sister, Julia Quinlan of Raleigh, NC, several nieces and nephews and many life long friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, January 14 at 11:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor. Rev. Charles R. Danielson will be the Celebrant. A reception for family members and relatives with follow a local restaurant. Memorial contributions may be made to either Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Care, The Alzheimer's Association of Vermont or Hudson River Sloop Clearwater in NY. The Knight Funeral Home in Windsor is entrusted with the arrangements.
