Mary Rouzena Doub was the seventh of eight known children of Samuel John Clayton Doub (1818-1870) and Susannah Rebecca Helsabeck (1824-1900), who married 14 Apr 1845 at Stokes (became Forsyth) County, North Carolina.


Mary married John Addison (went by Addison) Burton (1860-1897) on 27 Mar 1884 at Vienna Township, Forsyth County, North Carolina. Mary and Addison were the parents of six known children, namely:


1. Chester Jay Burton (1885-1963)

2. John Burl Burton (1887-1963)

3. Florence Pearl Burton Stewart (1889-1974)

4. Samuel Clark Burton (1892-1917)

5. Gurney Willard Burton (1894-1961)

6. Martha Edna Burton Pendry (1898-1983)

MRS MARY R BURTON High Point — Mrs Mary R Burton 79 well-known woman of High Point Route 2 was found dead in bed at her home Monday night and examining physicians said apparently death had occurred from natural causes some time Sunday night. Mrs Burton had made her home on Route 2 since the death of her husband in 1897. She was born in Forsyth county near Winston-Salem on July 19 1862 a daughter of Samuel and Rebecca Helsabeck Doub and married John Addison Burton on March 27 1884.

 Surviving are three sons Chester John B and Gurney W Burton all of High Point Route 2 two daughters Mrs Florence Stewart of Trenton N J and Mrs Edna Pendry of High Point a sister Mrs Florence Poindexter of Clemmons 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Methodist Church where funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev C E Ridge pastor Rev Edw. Suits pastor of Rankin Memorial Methodist Church and Rev Virgil Pike pastor of Oak Hill Friends Church.

 Burial will be made in the family plot in the church cemetery. The body was returned to the home of her son Chester Burton yesterday afternoon and will remain there until the hour for the service.
