JOHANN B. ROEPKE
From the Files of the Pilot - Forty-Nine Years ago - 1869
John Roepke, one of the early and most respected settlers of our county who had
but lately purchased the property known as Wall's Flouring mill, came to his
death in rather a singular manner. A little over a week ago he was assisting in
slaughtering one of his hogs when he got scratched by the struggling animal on
one of his arms, which soon commenced swelling. In spite of the best medical
effort, the swelling extended over his whole system and within six days from the
accident the man was a corpse. He died last Friday and was buried on Monday. His
age 47 years.
