Arthur Sylvester Padgett, Jr., 73, passed away on January 6, 2017. "Art" was born on July 6, 1943 in Jacksonville, FL and lived in Jacksonville as a child with his family.

After graduating from Terry Parker High School in 1961, Art joined the Army and spent time overseas in Germany where he was stationed for 2 years. Once discharged, he made his home in Houston, Texas during which time he met and married his first wife Doris Allen (Dorie) and had a daughter. He later settled again in Florida and attended the University of Florida, pursuing studies in chemical engineering. He eventually made his home back in Jacksonville where he worked for Southern Bell as a Sales Manager before going on to work as a consultant in Telecommunications. He met his second wife Susan Dennard (Sue) and had a second daughter. He later met his third wife Janet McCormick and had a third daughter. Art was very patriotic and had immense pride for our country. He was always sentimental regarding both his own military service as well as the military service of others. He was well-known for his conversational topics including politics, religion and economics. He never met a stranger and always had entertaining stories to share. He used his words of wisdom to inspire others and bring out the best in those closest to him.

He is now survived by his sister, Patricia Padgett Hartsfield; his three daughters, Dana Padgett Olsen of Virginia, Candice Padgett Preston of Jacksonville, Florida and Leigh Padgett Grady of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren; and his extended family, Keith Hartsfield.
