In Dave's own words!...
Life
I coached and managed three different softball teams in the same year and all three came in first place.
I umpired both baseball and softball. I served on the board for both boys and girls in Royal Oak.
I was blessed by being selected by the Daily Tribune to appear in their weekly article entitled "Unsung Hero" for my work with kids.
I was a member of the Toastmasters club
for a short while. A group that speaks to an Audience. It really benefited me because I stuttered all my life. 99 percent is gone.
.
I was also blessed to be a Sunday School teacher. My age group was both College and High school. I really had to love what what the subject was.
.
I am also a certified Archery instructor working with the Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) program. Kids 5 through 18.
After Ferndale high I joined the Navy for four years. I served aboard a
submarine rescue vessel.
My home port was Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
My only regret was not applying myself harder and loving school more.
.
I've been married 53 years to my classmate. We have two daughters. Both are independent and each have their own business.
Another thing that I'm thankful for is that my wife who
has the honorable title of "homemaker", never had to go to work. She was always able to be home when our children got home from school. We raised our own
children and NEVER put them into day care.
Workplace
After four years serving in our Navy, The place to go to work in 1965 was Chrysler Corp. down in Highland Park. After 4 years of doing that, I was ready to move on to better things. Then I found a match book cover on the floor that read, "become a Computer Programmer". I had nothing to lose so I checked it out. I found out that I had the talent for it.
I finished top of the class. That was my career for 35 years.
I served our Republic honorably in our Navy during the Viet Nam war ERA.
