Dr. Lander graduated from Espicopal Academy in 1943 and Ursinus College in 1946. He received his medical decree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1949. Dr. Lander was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy and was stationed with the First Marine Division on the front line at the Chosin Reservoir during the Korean Conflict from 1950-1951. At the time of his death he was a member of the Valley Forge Chapter of Chosin Few.

Dr. Lander's residency in Internal Medicine took place at Bryn Mawr Hospital from 1952-1953. He maintained a practice in Family Medicine in Bryn Mawr from 1953 until his death. He held many titles at Bryn Mawr Hospital including: Chief of Family Practice (1962-1987), President of the Bryn Mawr Hospital Staff (1979-1981), Hospital Representative to the American Medical Association, and member of the Executive Committee. Dr. Lander was active with the Montgomery Medical Society since 1954 and served as the president of the Pennsylvania Medical Society in 1990. Dr. Lander was the physician at Haverford College for over 25 years. He worked long hours in office, made frequent house calls, and would greet his patients and staff with a friendly "good morning" as he made his hospital rounds at night. At all times he would be wearing one of his many bow ties.

Beginning in 1933, he was an active and faithful member of Church of the Good Shepherd, where his father was a rector for 29 years. He served as an acolyte until the fall of 2016.

Dr. Lander is survived by this three sons, 13 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. His wife died in 2012.
