Dr. Bush Y. Abadir, born and raised in Alexandria passed away on January 1, 2017 at the age of 90 years old. He descended from an old Egyptian Christian family with roots in Upper Egypt. He left Alexandria in 1947 to attend the University of Glasgow where he obtained his Ph.D. in organic chemistry. He and his first wife Else Hansen Abadir immigrated to the United States in 1951. He received several post-doctorate research fellowships - first at the University of Southern California, then at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, followed by McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Abadir started as a research chemist at Monsanto Company in St. Louis, Missouri, followed by managing a chemical sales group. Subsequently he joined Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Corporation in Oakland, where he was an important factor in the creation and running of Kaiser Trading Company. In 1972, Dr. Abadir started his own successful chemical trading company, then soon branched into commercial real estate acquisitions. He was a global traveler, a generous man with a passion for world affairs. He had an all-encompassing curiosity, a penetrating intelligence, and possessed a keen understanding of many cultures.

He is survived by his wife Anne-Marie and his children Ralph, Mona, Glenn, Perry, Jeffrey and Eric, his step-son Carlos, as well his daughters in law, son in law, 19 grand children, 3 great grand children, his sister Sophia, and many nieces and nephews.

Dr. Bush Y. Abadir will be laid to rest in San Carlos Cemetery in Monterey, California on February 4th, 2017. Services will be held at Mission Mortuary Chapel in Monterey at 1PM on the same day.
