Larry Dean Byrd LUBBOCK-Larry Dean Byrd, 75, of Shallowater, Texas, passed away on Jan. 14, 2017, in his home. Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017, at Resthaven Memorial Park. A celebration of life service will follow at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church Shallowater with Brother Mitch Wilson of The Message officiating. Larry was born in Humboldt, TN, on March 22, 1941. He lived most of his life in McKenzie, TN, and graduated from McKenzie High School. Larry received a Bachelor of Science degree from Wayland Baptist University. On Dec. 24, 1965, Larry married Carrie Roberts in Big Spring, Texas. They celebrated 51 years of marriage. Larry served in The United States Air Force. After 30 years of service he retired as Chief Master Sargent. He later gave 18 years to Tenant Tracker. Larry loved the outdoors and had several hobbies including hiking, biking, and running. He had a passion for running and was part of the West Texas Running Club. He participated in 5K's 10k's and many other races. Most importantly, he completed 30 plus Marathons and one Ultra. With his kindness, knowledge, and humbleness he most likely did not realize the positive influence he had on others by just being himself. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ottis Byrd; his brother, Danny Byrd; and daughter, Tammy Byrd Robison. Larry is survived by wife, Carrie; daughter, Debbie and son-in-law, Jerry McMahan of Lubbock; four grandchildren, Caitlin and husband, T.J. Paden of Midland, Cullen Monaco of Albuquerque, Bradleigh and Dean Petty of Lubbock; two great-grandchildren, Kinzley Paden and Remi Paden of Midland; and one brother, Charles Byrd and wife, Sherry of Mississippi. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Southwest Parkinson's Society, 3610 22nd, Suite 300, Lubbock, TX 79410. Online condolences may be made at www.resthavenfuneralhome.com.
