"SPARTANSBURG YOUNG WOMAN PASSES AWAY - Mrs Wayne Aikens Had Been Ill For Year and Failed Rapidly During Past Week - SPARTANSBURG, Feb 10 - Mrs Helen Dorothy Aikens, wife of Wayne Aikens, passed away at the family home at 4:20 o'clock this afternoon, following a long illness, during which she always maintained a cheerful demeanor and was interested in the affairs of her friends and the community. A sister, Miss Mabel Titus, died only a few months ago. The deceased was a daughter of Mr and Mrs Lynn A Titus and was born on January 9, 1897. Her entire life has been spent in this community where she was held in high esteeem. For several years she was an assistant in the postoffice and her pleasant smile and obliging manner won for her the confidence and good will of all with whom she came in contact. Mrs Aikens had been confined to her bed most of the time since February 14, last year and while it was known that she could not recover, she had kept her strength remarkably well until about a week ago when she began to fail rapidly. When in good health, Mrs Aikens was active in the work of the Lady Morton Rebekah lodge and for several years was captain of the degree team. She was also a member of the Sparta Grange and of the Protestant Episcopal church. Besides the husband, she is survived only by the father, although her friends were numbered only by her acquaintances. Arrangements for the funeral had not been completed tonight but it is expected the service will be held Sunday afternoon with Rev Albert Broadhurst, rector of St James' Memorial church of Titusville, officiating."
