As Phillip grew he spent more time with a neighbour, Florence Ball. In 1911 the two married.
By 1921 Phil and Nellie are living near Nanaimo, with their three children Elsie, Ben and Grace. The family spent much time on the Alberni Canal. Phil was logging and started a company with friends called Bloedel, Stewart and Welch. Eventually a new partner came along which demanded Stewart and Welch leave the company creating MacMillain Bloedel.
Nellie became sick, dying in 1951. Her nurse, Mary Kidd, became Phil's second wife. The two enjoyed many years together before Phil's death at age 90. Phil was cremated. The whereabouts of his remains are unknown.
