He moved to Texas as a young child and was proud to refer to himself as a proud Texan. Charles graduated from Dayton High School June 29, 1963 where he enjoyed playing football. On December 8, 1943, Charles enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served in World War II.
After fighting for our country, Charles returned home and married the love of his life, Joy Mae Benton, on June 18, 1947. Charles raised four beautiful daughters with Joy. He always worked hard and together they provided a happy, loving home.
On December 15, 1954, Charles joined the United States Air Force. He moved up in rank quickly and after 30 years retired as a Chief Master Sergeant. Charles loved his country and he always said if he could have kept serving he would have. He taught his family true values of an American patriot and set a high example to look up to.
Charles lost his wife Joy on June 8, 1979. This was a love that he said could never be replaced. As he left this earth I am sure she is the first among many that greeted him.
Charles leaves behind his brother, Henry Buxton; and sister, Beth Buchanan; daughters, Cindy Odazier and Adrian Harbin; grandchildren, Celeste Joy Hoffman, Jennifer Pena, Ericka Odazier, Allison Jenson, April and Brian Harbin, Donnie and Bryan Davis; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Vance Hoffman and Rudy Pena.
A memorial service to celebrate Charles Buxton's life will be held January 28, 2017 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel.
Services placed in the trust of Gipson Funeral Home.
