Mrs. Gertrude F. Brookshire, 89, of Taylors, SC, died Thursday. Born in Taylors, SC, a daughter of the late J. Ralph and Nellie Mae Burry Fowler, she was a member of Hampton Heights Baptist Church. Mrs. Brookshire graduated from Winthrop College and received her Master's Degree from Furman University. She retired from Greenville County Schools after 40+ years having taught Home Economics, elementary classes and ended her career as a librarian.
Surviving are a daughter and her husband, Linda and Ronnie James, Greer; a grandson and his wife, Cory and Amanda James, Fountain Inn; and 2 great grandchildren, Molly-Breeze James and Maley James; a sister, Kathryn Batson of Travelers Rest. Mrs. Brookshire was predeceased by her 1st husband, Wilford L. Dodd and by her 2nd husband, Fred B. Brookshire; also by a sister-in-law, Mary Dodd Lyles and brother-in-law, Alvin F. Batson.
Services will be held 4 pm Sunday in Mackey Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be held from 3-4 pm in the funeral home. Private entombment will be later in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials can be made to Hampton Heights Baptist Church, 2511 Wade Hampton Blvd., Greenville, SC 29615. Condolences may be made online at www.mackeymortuary.com.
