Sister Eulalia

A dark shadow was cast over the Loretto Academy and the entire community when word was received early Monday morning of the death of Sister Eulalia, directories of the Loretto Academy of Las Cruces

Few people who have passed away in our community been more generally and dearly known than Sister Eulalia. Her self sacrificing life will live for years in the minds of her pupils all of who came in contact with her uplifting influence. The entire community extends its deep sympathy to the Sisters of the Academy, where the deceased had spent fifteen years.

Sister Eulala went to El Paso a week ago for a critical operation that resulted in death Monday morning at 2 o'clock. Her condition was encouraging until late Sunday night, when word was received that she could not survive.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Academy. High mass was sung by Father Mijeon, the convent chaplain at 7:30 AM. The burial services at 11:30 were conducted by Father Vandermaeson, pastor at St. Genevieve's Church.

The worldly name of Sister Eulalia was Cora Belle McFarland, born in Edina Missouri and she was 59 years old at the time of her death.Sister Eulalia spent her childhood in Missouri and later attended the University in Columbia, Missouri before coming to the Southwest.
