Edward Abend, President of the Belleville Savings Bank Was born in Belleville, February 5, 1871, the son of Edward and Anna Hilgard Abend. His father was the first President of the Belleville Savings Bank and resided with his family on Abend street at number 324, near the residence of Gustavus Koerner.

On January 21st, 1903, Mr. Abend was united in marriage with Miss Margaret E. Wess and to this happy union was born one son, Edward, Jr., who is now located in Fort Smith, Ark., filling the position of traffic superintendent in that district for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.

Mrs. Abend is the daughter of the late Mrs. Susie Wess, former proprietress of the Belleville House Hotel. At the age of thirty-three years Edward Abend, the subject of this sketch, was made a director of the Belleville Savings Bank and in 1918 Vice President, and in 1925 was made President.

Mr. Abend served as first lieutenant of Company D, Fourth Illinois Volunteer Infantry, during the Spanish-American War.

He was president of the Board of Education of Belleville in 1917 and 1918. He is a member of the Masons, Knights Templar, Shrine (Moolah Temple, St. Louis), Elks, and Rotary Club.

Mr. Abend has also been President of the Belleville Brick Company since 1903 and resides at 229 South High street.
