There's not enough space in the whole world to describe the personality of this cat.
Merlyn, Merly, Merle, Boo, Booboo, Bubby, Buddy, Baby, Sweetie, Lover, my boy, he had a million names.
After Shadow died, my mom and I thought Moze needed another friend. My mom kept saying her next cat would be named Merlin. Turned out he wasn't much of her cat. He was all mine. I called him Merle, and mom would yell "He's not a Merle!" ... It wasn't long before that turned into "He's such a Merle."

Merlyn was my baby, my soulmate, the absolute love of my life. I'm not joking when I say this cat was my heart. I love him beyond words and I know he felt the same. Nearing 18 years he and I had been together.
I held him as he passed away, him and I looking in each others eyes.

I brought him home in February of 2000, he was living on the street and followed my husband's friend home. The 1st time I ever saw him, he bit me in the nose and I knew he was meant for me. He came home with me that night. From the day I brought him home, he and I never spent more than a single week apart.

Early on he had gotten sick, and after that I treated him like a fragile flower. Not that he was though. He could be mean and full of rage, but if he squealed, I'd come running like an overprotective mama bear. I'd yell at my husband, my mother, my friends and my other pets if I even thought they were trying to hurt him. I think he just liked to yell so I'd come get him. He loved sitting in laps, but if I called, he'd come running. Merly's favorite place was my lap. Hours and hours spent in my lap.

Food was everything to him. I have teeth marks in half my house from him testing what was edible. My couch has teeth marks from him. We would say he had teeth of adamantium, because, like Wolverine, his teeth could tear into anything. He once bit a mermaid statue to see if it was edible.
He once bit into a full can of soda. Straight into it! The soda came shooting out and he flew 5ft into the air and went running back to the bed to have me comfort him. He was sticky and my husband was laughing while trying to get soda out of the carpet and wall. He was such a butt head.

Merly wasn't good as an only kitty. He lived with Moze and Ghost for a few years and when my husband and I moved, we took only him while my mom kept the other two.
Merly started banging on cupboards, blinds, getting into every corner looking for someone to play with him. I wrote a note saying Merle needs a friend! and the next day our kitty Kyo showed up in our backyard. Merle and Kyo became great friends, but it was a bit of a rough start. They took turns being mad, but about a week in when Kyo had a complete vet visit and was very tired, Merle kept him company. They were good. In the early days Merly wouldn't let Kyo anywhere near me while I slept. He'd sit at the foot of the bed and run him out of the room.
Years later when we brought the dog home, Kyo would chase the dog if he thought she was too close to Merlyn.

He would make the cutest noise(brrrt) when you picked him up. His claws didn't retract. Little Velociraptor feet I said. He had short legs(all the better to love him for though). He had one tooth that stuck out more than the other, his little Dracula fang.
He was my little tuxedo boy, but beware trying to touch that white spot on his tummy. He'd eat your fingers. In the sunlight you could see his underlying tabby stripes, but if you called him a tabby, he'd bite you. He had the softest fur ever. Everyone always said something about how soft he was. My beautiful boy.

My whole life revolved around him. I fed the cats when he was hungry, I sat on the couch because he wanted me there.

He spent his life being loved. Never thinking there was anything bad ever to happen. His life was blessed, he was cared for, and I'll continue to love him until the ends of the Earth. He was everything to me.
Someday he and I will be together again, and until that day I'll never be whole. Maybe I loved him too much, but that's better than not enough.

Love of my life, I love you.
