Clement "Val" Vallandingham Wages, born in 1863, was probably named after Democrat Candidate for Ohio Governor, Clement Laird Vallandingham of Knox County History, who made his famous speach in Mt. Vernon public square that same year.

JEWELER 50 YEARS CLAIMED BY DEATH
Rites For C. V. Wages, New Carlisle, To be Saturday
NEW CARLISLE - C. V. Wages, 80, jeweler and optometrist for 50 years, died Wednesday at 3 p. m. in his residence here. Death followed an illness of one year.
Born in Frederickstown, O., a son of Mr. and Mrs. James Wages. Mr. Wages was married Sept. 27, 1885, in the home of the bride in Johnstown, Ohio. The couple observed their 50th wedding anniversary here in 1935.
Prominent in fraternal activities, Mr. Wages was a member of New Carlisle Lodge No. 100 Free and Accepted Masons, 52 years. He also was affiliated with New Carlisle Chapter No. 423 Order of Eastern Star; Lodge No. 505 Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
Survivors are the widow, Carrie, a daughter, Mrs. Harry B. Smith of here, and a granddaughter, Miss Julia Lee Smith, also of here.
The body was removed to the Doom funeral home here and will be taken to the residence Friday morning. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in New Carlisle Cemetery.
