Dorothy Pearl Milholland ‘Went Home’ on Sunday afternoon, January 29, 2017. Just several days prior to her passing she said, “I want to go home – I want to see Jesus.”

Dorothy was born on April 13, 1927 to parents Charles Edward and Ella Pearl Mayo in Olympia, WA. She spent the first 11 years of her life in the small town of Oakville and then moved to Anacortes in 1939 when her father became a co-op owner of Anacortes Plywood.

Dorothy graduated from Anacortes High School in 1945 and lettered in choir. Her love of music continued throughout her life, and she loved playing her piano and organ.

After attending two years at Skagit Valley Business College [45-47], she started employment with Peoples National Bank as a Bookkeeper. In 1949 she married David Rahe Milholland and began her lifelong residency in the Dewey Beach community of Anacortes. Dorothy chose to stay at home with her children while they were still young. During some of these years, she worked as a Cook’s Helper at the Fidalgo Elementary School. Then, in 1963 she returned to Peoples Bank where she worked for 27+ years, retiring in 1989.

Dorothy and Dave were married for over 60 years at the time of his death in September 2010. Dave continued commercial fishing until the ripe old age of 85 when he finally retired. During many of her summer respites without Dave when he was fishing in Alaska she enjoyed travelling with her daughter Diane to spend time on the Ocean Beaches near Westport and visit her extended family in Oakville. She also enjoyed many mini vacations with her good friend Marylee Owings.

Dorothy was active in Beta Sigma Phi for over 50 years. She was also a member of the Anacortes Good Sam club with her husband where they enjoyed numerous outings in their Motorhome over many years. Dorothy was a breast cancer survivor of 26 years. Dave and Dorothy were also members of the Summit Park Community Church where Dorothy was baptized. By all who knew her, Dorothy will be remembered fondly for her unique and quirky sense of humor which brought laughter to us all.

Dorothy suffered a severe stroke within just a few months of her husband’s death in 2010. In February 2011, she moved into Creekside Continuing Care Community in Burlington where she resided until December 2016. For the remainder of her life she resided at Joshua’s House – an Adult Family Home in Sedro Woolley. Dorothy is at peace now and for this we are grateful.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Dave, daughter Diane, and her parents Ed and Pearl Mayo. She is survived by her son Dwight (Mary) Milholland, grandchildren Myles & Dallas Milholland, Joshua (Mandy) Brown and Andrew (Sara) Brown. She was also blessed with 5 great grandchildren whom she loved dearly.

A Funeral Service for Dorothy will be held Thursday, 1 p.m. February 9, 2017 at Evans Funeral Chapel in Anacortes; with a reception following the service.

Private interment will be held at Fernhill Cemetery.

Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., Anacortes, WA and the San Juan Islands.
