This is an autobiographic obituary published in the Montgomery Advertiser on Feb. 6, 2017

Colonel Jack C. Dixon, Jr., United States Air Force, retired, died peacefully at his home on February 1, 2017 at the age of 91.

Col Dixon was [the son of Dickie Antram (later married to V. (Victor) Guy Day) and Jack C. Dixon and] a native of Birmingham, AL where he attended Phillips High School. He attended the University of Alabama Law School, receiving his Juris Doctor Degree. While a student there he served as President of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and participated in most intramural sports. He received his Master of Laws degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

Dixon worked as an attorney for the Federal Security Agency for two years, when he was called to active duty by the newly formed U.S. Air Force, as a Judge Advocate. He was sent to Tokyo, Japan where he served in the Korean campaign. He later served tours of duty at Andrews Air Force Base in Washington; Tripoli, Libya; Weisbaden, Germany; the Pentagon, and Vietnam during the Tet offensive as Senior Air Force JAG on General Westmoreland's staff. He then served at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany and finally as staff Judge Advocate of the Air University at Maxwell Air Force Base, retiring in October 1979. His many military decorations and awards include the Legion of Merit, with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Bronze Star Medal, and the Vietnamese Honor Medal.

Upon retiring at Maxwell Air Force Base, he accepted a position with the Alabama Court Systems and for most of the next fifteen years he served as Staff Counsel to the Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court. He again retired in May, 1994 and became involved in various activities including serving as a mentor in the Partners in Education reading program. He was an active member in the Montgomery Capital Rotary Club.

Colonel Dixon was preceded in death by his wife Lauretta Jean Dixon, from Washington, D.C.

He is survived by his sister in law, Mary Alyce Mize, Tuscaloosa, AL; nephew, Chad Mize and his wife Carolyn of Birmingham, AL; nieces Alyce Hartley of Birmingham, AL and Mary Lou Tucker of Tuscaloosa, AL.

The Memorial Service will be held on Thursday February 9th at 2:00 PM at Southern Memorial Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Kirby Smith. The family will receive friends one hour prior. A private interment will be held at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Montgomery Humane Society.
