Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 20 at the First United Methodist Church in Miller with the Rev. David Andrews officiating. Burial will be in the G.A.R. Cemetery, Miller, directed by Reck Funeral Home of Miller.
Casketbearers will be her grandchildren, Todd, Tiffany, Robin, Tara, Ken, Camille, Kathleen, Casper, Matthew, Lisa, Wilbur, Tabb, Eric and Brandy.
Evelyn was born February 13, 1914 at Ludlow, S.D., to Roy and Henrietta (Tammen) Allgaier. In 1919, the family moved to Hand County where Evelyn spent the rest of her life. She graduated from Miller High School and attended Northern Normal in Aberdeen and Wessington Springs Junior College. She worked one summer as a secretary at Anderson's Creamery in Miller and then taught nine years in rural schools in Hand County.
She married Wilbur Jones on July 3, 1937. Five children were born to this union, LeRoy, LaRita, Lila, Larry, and Lowell. They farmed in Hand County their entire life.
Evelyn was active in Music Parents, Extension work, First United Methodist Church, and was a 4-H leader.
She is survived by her children, LaRita Monroe of Hamilton, Mont., Lila Jones of Huron, Dr. Larry (Paula) Jones of Yankton, and Lowell (Barb) Jones of Ree Heights; fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Doss Jones of Pasadena, Calif., and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, LeRoy; a granddaughter, Jennifer; a brother and his wife, Earl and Esther; and a son-in-law, Russel Monroe.
