Armon Allen was born November 11, 1946, to John Travis Allen and Dorothy Lee Kemp Allen at their home in Oak Cliff, Texas. He died January 31, 2017, at his home in DeSoto, Texas, after a lengthy battle with Frontotemperal Dementia. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Peggy Jean Ennis Allen and two children: Marissa Taylor (spouse Eric) and Jon Allen (spouse Kami). He was blessed with 4 grandchildren: Peyton and Josiah Allen and Travis and Emma Taylor. He is also survived by his sisters and brother and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
Armon was a hard worker and always strived to be the best. He began delivering the Dallas Morning News by bicycle at age 12 and won numerous awards as an outstanding carrier. He graduated from Wilmer-Hutchins High School in 1965. While at Wilmer-Hutchins he was Junior Class Favorite, President of the Student Body and voted Most Likely to Succeed. He was Salutatorian of his graduating class. He attended the University of Texas at Arlington majoring in Engineering.
He married Peggy on June 1, 1968. Armon was drafted into the United States Army in November 1969. He was Outstanding Recruit of his basic training class in Ft. Lewis, Washington. He was transferred to Ft. Sill, Oklahoma for Advanced training in Field Artillery. He excelled in his training and was promoted to Staff Sergeant after a few months service. He was held at Ft. Sill after his class to assist with training other classes. In September 1970 he received orders for Vietnam where he supervised Artillery crews on various fire base camps. His daughter, Marissa was born in November 1970, one month after being sent to Vietnam and she was 9 months old before he saw her in person.
After being Honorably Discharged from the Army, he was employed in various occupations, including: owner/manager of a convenience store and salesman for a printing/copier company. He was employed by Bruning, Corp. where he sold and trained others on computer aided drafting software for the first desk top computer stations. During this time, he traveled extensively, spending the week away from home and coming home on the weekends. He excelled and received numerous outstanding sales awards through the years.
His son, Jon was born in 1973.
He discovered he loved teaching others how to use a computer and took a job at Automated Office Solutions at the new Infomart building in Dallas, Texas. He developed curriculum and training materials while at AOS. He eventually began working for Atmos Energy and retired from there in December 2008 as a Supervisor of the Help Desk. Throughout his working career, he received high praise for his work ethic and ability to accomplish whatever task was set before him.
Armon spent many hours volunteering for various church and civic organizations. He led the offering counting team at Trinity Church for several years and taught a Beginners Computer class.
Armon loved to ride his bicycle and competed in many bike races.
He was a good son, devoted to his parents until their deaths. He loved his extended family deeply.
