John Reagan Woodward was born June 23, 1936 to Max Woodward and Frances Drane Woodward in Sherman, Texas where he spent his youth. He died peacefully on February 2, 2017 at home from complications of kidney and heart disease. Max Woodward was a pediatrician and inspired John at an early age to pursue a medical career. His pre-med college was completed in 3 years at the University of Texas at Austin. In July 1958 he married a charismatic beautiful French girl, Jacqueline Roger, in Paris, France whom he had met while both were summer staff at Cheley Camp in Estes Park, Colorado. John's eight years of medical training were at Yale University School of Medicine and Yale-New Haven Medical Center in New Haven, Connecticut. He was board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. His military service was at the American Hospital in Paris, France and was then transferred to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at SHAPE (Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe) in Brussels, Belgium. John and Jacqueline returned to Texas with their 3 children in 1968 where he began his medical career at Baylor University Hospital in Dallas. He began his solo practice at Medical City Dallas when it opened in 1974 and remained in practice there until his death (43 years). John's leading edge mindset, medical training, and desire to always stay well informed of the latest research allowed him to introduce several new surgical procedures, specifically laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, and endometrial ablation to the Dallas medical community. For the past 15 years his practice has focused on bio-identical hormone replacement therapy; many years ago he aided the FDA in research of bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), including hormone pellets. After losing his beloved Jacqueline in August 2005 to complications related to breast cancer, he began researching breast cancer and was awarded two United States Patents relating to screening, treatment and management of the disease. In addition to Jacqueline, preceding him in death were his parents and his sister, Betsy Johnson of Golden, Colorado. Survivors include his adoring wife of 10 years, Dorothy Manuel Woodward; daughters Julie Haverluk of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Catherine Woodward (Eric Horschman) of San Ramon, California; son Hugh (Monica) Woodward of Houston, Texas; grandchildren Elena and Claire Haverluk, Marc and Anne Horschman, Kate and Jack Woodward; nephew Jim (Marilyn) Johnson of Kerrville, Texas; niece Jenny Johnson of Golden, Colorado; sisters-in-law Shirley and Loretta Manuel of Dallas, Texas, and numerous cousins. John loved to hunt and fish and traveled widely with family and friends. His family and dear, life-long friends as well as loyal patients will remember his charm, lively and adventurous spirit, and ready humor. John's wish was to be cremated. No services are planned as he requested prior to his death. John's wish was to be cremated. No services are planned as he requested prior to his death. He asked that friends and family simply remember happy times they shared with him with a happy heart. If you wish to honor his memory, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or American Kidney Fund.

On Memorial Day, 2018, John Woodward's three children and their spouses gathered in Santa Anna, Texas, with other Woodward descendants, to celebrate John's life. Through the years he had spent a lot of time in that area, visiting his grandmother, uncles, aunts and cousins and enjoying the great dove hunting. John's ashes were scattered on the Santa Anna Mountain by his grandchildren, and favorite memories were recounted by the group.
