Dr. Robert William Fritz, 47, of Helena, died of cancer on Fri., Sept. 1, at St. Peter's Hospital.

He was born on Sept. 2, 1947 at St. Peter's Hospital in Helena, to Jacob and Emma Fritz.  He was a graduate of Helena High School.  He attended three years at Walla Walla College before being accepted by Loma Linda Dental School.  Upon graduation, he opened his dental practice in Helena, where he practiced for 23 years.  During this time, he was appointed by the governor and served two terms on the board of dentistry.  He also was the northwest regional director of the National Bench Rest Shooters Association, in which he pursued his passion for target shooting.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Heiser Fritz; their four children, Tawni Fritz McAlpine and her husband Robert McAlpine, Tammi Fritz, Jacob Fritz and Mikel Fritz; two grandchildren, Zachariah Alen Lukenbill and Chelsey Marie Fritz; two sisters, Joan Margares and her children, Janine, Jeff and Amy, and Carol Moen and her sons Marc and Greg.  He also is survived by other extended family members and friends.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wed., Sept 6 at the Retz Funeral Home.
