Mary Jane Galer's list of persons buried in the Old Cemetery section of Linwood shows: child of Simeon MONK [sic] died aged 8 years of the small pox; interred 11 JAN 1867 – Sexton Robert Thomas SIMONS. [Galer's source was the sexton's card file (an index). I'm presently unable to locate the card on which this entry was based, suggesting that it was misfiled at the time the card file was microfilmed and is therefore out of sequence. The original burial entry in the sexton's ledger shows this was a child of Simeon MOAT (not "MONK"). The burial record also mentions that this child was born in Georgia; in the "Remarks" column, which for all other entries in this era was used to indicate whether the individual was interred as a resident or a non-resident, the entry for this child shows "Columbus." Not sure if this means the child was a resident, or if it means the child died in Columbus as a non-resident.]
1860 federal census of Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia, Dwelling #479 / Household #479 (all MOTE, all born in Georgia); Simeon (55), carpenter holding no real estate but personal estate valued at $100; Rebecca (37); Washington (18), moulder; Lilly A. (16); James (15); Orray (male, 14) [sic -- I suspect this is daughter Arrie Irene]; Missouri (12); Marrion (male, 11); Henry (9); Jesse (6); and Louis (male, 2).
This grave is evidently not identifiably marked.
