Charles Louis Berríos was enlisted in the state of Illinois to fight in the Republic of Vietnam where he was wounded on February 1, 1970 and was flown to the U.S. Army Hospital located in Zuma, Japan where he was hospitalized to heal his wounds. On the 28th day of May 2008 in the city of Washington, the President of the United States of America awarded him with the Purple Heart.
