Franklin News-Herald, Saturday, Dec 16 1911:
The body of Mrs. M. A. Whitely, formerly of Franklin, who died Thursday morning in Warren, arrived in Oil City just before noon today and was brought here n a street car and taken to the Franklin cemetery, where interment took place.

She was born near Callensburg, Clarion County, June 6, 1830. At the age of 19 she was wedded to John Beihl, who died at Franklin in April, 1867. She was for several years a resident of Meadville, and married there to her second husband, Rev. Jonathan Whitely of Oil City in February 1878. Dr. Whitely was for many years a prominent minister of the Erie Methodist Episcopal Conference, and for the last quarter of a century of his life as homeopathic physician. He died at Oil City May 12, 1891.

Mrs. Whitely during her residence in Meadville was a member of the First Methodist Episcopal church, later a member of Trinity Methodist Episcopal Church, Oil City, and lastly Grace Church, Warren. In February, 1893, she sustained a paralytic stroke, and for a period of nearly 19 years was an invalid. Her great affliction was borne with Christian patience and fortitude, and she was never heard to complain. No more faithful wife and mother has ever lived, and her long life of over four-score years was given to good works.

She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. A. T. Eaton of Warren, Mrs. William Bonnett of Reno, Mrs. John T. Payne of Brockwayville, and Mrs. A. C. Pardee of Meadville; a step-daughter, Mrs. Ralph M. Brigman of Franklin; two sisters, Mrs. Sophia Culp of Mars, Butler County, and Mrs. Pauline Reichard of Lickingville; and a brother, Hiram Whitmore of Knox. Many other relatives are living in this section.
