As a member of the Army Selective Service and a Draftee, PFC Ellis served our country until August 19th, 1967 in Hua Nghia, South Vietnam. He was 21 years old and was married. It was reported that Baxter died from small arms fire or grenade. His body was recovered. PFC Ellis is on panel 25E, line 016 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for one year.

Ellis had been reported missing in action while in combat operations. Ellis, the son of Mr and Mrs Thell R Ellis of Ca-Vel, entered Service in May of 1966 and had his basic training at Ft Jackson, SC and at Fort Polk, LA. He was wounded in action in June and was hospitalized a month before returning to action. A native of Person County, he was a member of the Ca-Vel Baptist Church and attended Roxboro High School. He is survived by his wife, Mrs Martha Ann Teer Ellis of Mebane; one brother, John T Ellis of Durham; and his maternal grandmother, Mrs John Hobgood. Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending arrival of the bodies from Vietnam.
He was the husband of Mrs Martha E Ellis, Route #2, Box 50, Mebane, NC. Son of Mr and Mrs Thell R Ellis of Ca-Vel, NC.
He served with Bravo Company, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, "Tropic Lightning", USAV.
He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Bronze Star Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster, The Purple Heart Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster for his combat related wounds, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal.
