THOMASVILLE - Tyrone Stanley Bullard, 57, of 1180 Johnsontown Road left the care of the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem and entered into the eternal care of his heavenly father on Saturday, May 25, 2002.

Mr. Bullard was born on Nov. 21, 1944, in Cumberland County to the late Murphy Olive Bullard and Lillie McMillian Bullard.

He graduated from Parkton High School and served as a sergeant in the Parkton National Guard. Mr. Bullard was a faithful member of Rich Fork Baptist Church in Thomasville as long as his health permitted. He had served in several capacities including deacon, youth and ushering. He graduated from N.C. State University with an associate degree in entomology and was an avid State fan. He retired this year with 33 years of service as a state inspector with the structural pest-control division under the N.C. Department of Agriculture. He thoroughly enjoyed his profession of enforcing state rules and regulations for pest-control operators and tried to work closely with the pest-control industry as an enforcer, adviser and friend. His work allowed him to travel throughout the state but in recent years was confined to nearby counties. Mr. Bullard served within his community as a coach for the Davidson County boy's baseball league and as a volunteer member of the Davidson County Sheriff Posse, Team 101. Mr. Bullard was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in January 2001 and began a valiant fight against his cancer drawing strength from his faith in Jesus Christ. The battle was made easier with the loving support and prayers of his family, church and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Joyce LaPrade Bullard; a son, Bret Samuel Bullard and wife, Jennifer Barnes of Thomasville and infant granddaughter, who brought special joy to his heart, Mackenzie Joyce Bullard; two sisters, Arlene Matthews and husband Errol of Summerville, S.C., and Linda Faye Anderson and husband Doug of Norfolk, Va.; four brothers, Olive O. Bullard and wife Lucille of Red Springs, J.S. "John" Bullard and wife Rogeriene of Hartsville, S.C., Jesse E. Bullard and wife Susan of Richmond, Va., and the Rev. James "Jimmy" Bullard and wife Marsha of Parkton.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at Rich Fork Baptist Church, 3993 Old Highway 29 in Thomasville with the Rev. Byron Baker officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. A private family graveside service will follow in the church cemetery. The Bullard family will receive friends at Rich Fork Baptist Church from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, May 27, and from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 28. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Rich Fork Baptist Church M3 Campaign Building Fund or Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to Hospice of Davidson County, P.O. Box 1941, Lexington, NC 27293-1941. (submitted by K. Clinard)
