Richard, a Seal Point Siamese (or "Thai") cat, was born circa 2002. He was rescued from a vacant lot and named Kittybaby by a woman who loved and cared for him until 2011 (when he was about 9 years old) when she was no longer able to care for him.

She wanted him to find a loving home, however, and indeed he did. With the help of a family friend (who fostered him for a few months), Kittybaby found his way to his new parents, Merwyn and Tammy, whose house he moved into on October 29th, 2011. He stayed in that house, living happily with his parents and dog friend/sister, Daisy the Silky Terrier, for his remaining five years, three months, and eleven days.

Before he moved into his fur-ever home, Kitty's new parents decided to name him Richard (middle name Donald). Officially, he was Richard for the remainder of his years; however, his parents learned soon after meeting him that he still answered to Kittybaby, and found that his original name seemed to suit him. (His mama often told him that it was a kind name, fitting for the kindest cat that she knew.)

Like many beloved pets, Richard Kittybaby acquired a host of nicknames, all of which he was called from time to time, including: Buddy, Buddy Bear, Buddy Boy, Buddy Boyd, Boyd Crowder, Kit, KB, Baby, The Kittybaby, Kitten Baby, Cat Baby, Mr. Baby, Mr. Handsome, Mr. Attractive, Sweet Boy, Baby Boy, Baby Friend, Friend Baby, Baby Bayer, Precious Bayer, Baby Faced Bayer, Baby Faced Cat, Boy Cat, Baby Buddy Bear, Blue Eyes Bear, Blue Eyed Bear, Blue Eyes Cat, Old Blue Eyes, Blueberry Eyes, Blueberry Guy, Baseball Glove Paws, Velvet Paws, Velvet Nose, Honey Child, Honey Bear, Angel From Heaven, Kitty Angel, Angel Face, Tiny Guy, Small Fry, Puffy Faced Friend, Fluffy Faced Friend, Cute Stuff, Mr. Cutie Pie, Sweet Old Tomcat, Letter Q, and (perhaps most frequently, at least by his mama) just Kitty. His mama also liked to refer to him as her handsome, dapper gentleman.

Kitty was an easy cat to please; he enjoyed sitting in chairs, on couches, or in whatever comfortable spot in the house that he could find (he tended to rotate his hangout spots from week to week; one of his favorite places to relax was a pillow on top of a half-open suitcase. His parents called this his "suitcase bed".) He especially loved a pink fleece breast cancer awareness blanket that one of his mama's friends made for her before Kitty moved to his fur-ever home; emblazoned on the blanket's fabric (among flowers and pink ribbons) are words such as "kindness", "care", "strength", and "friendship". Kittybaby's mother began to refer to this blanket as the "Kindness Blanket", and she and Kitty spent many late nights on the couch with the lights out, watching Netflix or YouTube on Mama's laptop: Mama under the Kindness Blanket, and Kitty snuggled on top watching with her (usually purring his mostly-very-quiet-but-occasionally-loud-and-rumbly purr).

Kitty also enjoyed food, and especially treats (of which he received many in his last couple of years); drinking water (sometimes from the bathtub or sink); collapsing in sunbeams; curling up next to his sister, Daisy (they ignored eachother much of the time, but both of them often used the other as a blanket/pillow when they thought that their parents weren't looking); gazing out the front living room window; meowing loudly and often; grooming his coat and having it brushed by his daddy (and sometimes his mama); listening to his mama talk and sing to him; sitting on his daddy's legs while his daddy was reading; and spending time in the living room with his entire family (except for the rare occasion when he needed some alone time and would gravitate for an hour or two to his favorite chair at the table in the kitchen nook). He sometimes enjoyed playing, as well, although he was picky about toys; however, he was amused by his organic catnip pillows, and he really loved batting at his feather-on-a-stick and chasing around his purple catnip hippo.

(He was ambivalent about playing with other catnip toys -- even the tiger that came in the same package as his purple hippo -- but he did like to thoroughly lick each new catnip toy that was presented to him.)

Richard Kittybaby was (as his foster dad called him) a "total Siamese" -- evident not only in his crossed blue eyes, kinked tail, and various expressive meows, but also in his friendly and outgoing spirit. He liked every person that he met, and every person that he met liked him.

Beyond being just friendly, though, Richard was unusually loving and empathetic. He didn't have a mean bone in his body. (He hissed only 1 and 1/2 times in his fur-ever home, both times shortly after meeting his sister and directed at her; once he learned that Daisy was no threat, the hissing stopped.) He did like to "love bite" (mostly noses) and he sometimes pawed at his mama for attention (resulting in scratches) but he never used his teeth or claws as weapons.

He always seemed to know when his mama most needed cheering up, and made it his duty in those times to make her feel better (which he always succeeded at).

Kitty passed away early in the morning of February 9th, 2017. Never a fighter while healthy, he fought to stay with his family as hard and for as long as he could in his final two days. He slipped away peacefully at about 3:40 AM, stretched out in his parents' bedroom on top of the Kindness Blanket that he shared with his mama. His mama was on the floor next to him, holding his front right paw (which he'd extended to both of his parents several times in the hours leading up) and his daddy was reaching down from the bed to stroke Kitty's fur; both of his parents made sure to repeatedly let Kitty know how much he was loved. His mama told him that he could just relax and said that they could fall asleep together; indeed, this is what they did, paw in hand.

Kitty was his mama's best friend, and loved almost as much by his daddy. He was sorely missed even before he left -- and is more so afterward -- but for the rest of his parents' lives, he'll remain forever loved and never, ever forgotten.
