Born in Baltimore, Maryland to Joseph Jefferson II and Cornelia (nee Thomas) Jefferson. In 1837, she traveled with her parents in their "strolling players" group. They traveled and performed all over the country for the next 12 years.

She starred as Little Pickle in "The Spoiled Child" at Chanfrau's National Theatre in New York City on May 17, 1849. She performed on the stage of Laura Keene's Olympic Theatre from 1957-1958. Her most memorable performance was Titania in Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in the Autumn of 1867.

She married Charles Jackson and had one son, Charles Jackson.
She visited England in 1877.
