Raymond Edward Shavlik, age 89, died on February 8, 2017 in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. He was a resident of the Atrium Acute Care Center. Ray died of complications from a stroke he suffered last May and Alzheimer’s disease.

Ray was born August 30, 1927 in Two Rivers, Wisconsin to Anastasia and Wenzel Shavlik. Ray served during World War II in the Merchant Marines aboard the Wisteria, a United States Army Hospital Ship as a part of the crew where he held several jobs. After the war, Ray joined the Army Air Corps and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1947. He married Elizabeth “Betty” Brey August 20, 1955. They had two sons, Jude and Mark Shavlik. Ray worked on mail trains for the Chicago and Northwestern railroads before joining the US Postal Service from which he retired in the 1980’s. He and his wife lived in the Manitowoc area before settling in Green Bay, Wisconsin where he lived until just this past May. Ray was an accomplished woodworker, avid golfer and huge Packers fan, including working as an usher for the Packers during games. He was also a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church.

Ray is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Jude Shavlik and Zoann Branstine of Madison, Wisconsin and Mark and Rebecca Shavlik of White Bear Lake, Minnesota; his three grandchildren Anton Shavlik of Minneapolis, MN; Margaret Shavlik of Austin, TX; and Irina Shavlik of Chicago, IL; his longtime companion Gertrude Rivest currently residing in Two Rivers, WI; and his brother Donald Shavlik of Two Rivers. He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth “Betty” Shavlik and his sister Dorothy Sell.

Family and friends may visit Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., Green Bay, on Sunday, February 12, 2017, from 4 p.m. until the hour of funeral service at 6 p.m., with Fr. William Hoffman officiating. Raymond with be entombed with his wife Betty Shavlik at the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.
