—Conrad J. Rice, 67, prominent Brown county farmer, died at the St. Luke's hospital in Kansas City, Mo., at 8 o'clock Tuesday morning, May 8, 1956, of an embolism. Mr. Rice was operated on a week ago for bone surgery and apparently was making a satisfactory recovery when the blood clot developed. Mr. Rice is survived by his wife of the home, northeast of Hiawatha; daughter, Mrs. Robert J. Howard; grandchildren, Pauline and John Howard; brothers, R. J. Rice of Little Rock, Ark., and T. J. Rice of Brookville, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. E. H. Martin of Kansas City, Kans. Funeral services will be announced later.

"Funeral services for Conrad J. Rice were held from the First Baptist church at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, May 10, by the Rev. E. R. Talbot. Among the relatives and friends from out of town attending were Mr. Mrs. Thad Rice of Brooksville, Fla., Mr. Mrs. Roderick Rice of Little Rock, Ark., Mr. Mrs. Elmer Martin of Kansas City, Kans., Dr. and Mrs. H. R. Barnes of Hutchinson, Mr. Mrs. Clyde Conrad of St. Joseph, Mr. Mrs. H. C. Conrad of Polo, Mo., Mr. Mrs. Robert Barnes, son, Robert, of Kansas City, Kans., Mrs. Nellie Allen of Lawrence, George R. Hart of Lawrence, Mr. Mrs. Claude Barnes of Hamilton, Mo., Mr. Mrs. Melvin Barnes of Hamilton, Dr. Evan Heatley of Oklahoma City, Okla."
