Virgil Livengood was entered in the 1933 Indianapolis 500 driving the #69 Duesenberg Special. He practiced but was involved in a serious accident when he experienced a blown tire during his qualification attempt. He escaped injury but that ended his chances to make the starting field. This would be his only appearance at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He also competed in the NASCAR Grand National Series in 1950, 1953 and 1954 with 5 starts completing 380 laps with 1 top 10 finish.
After his retirement from racing he became a welder.
