Cremation rites will be accorded and memorial services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Hinton United Methodist Church with Pastor Kolleen Queener officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City.

Don, the son of Henry and Marie (Thacker) Arndt, was born April 30, 1928 in Sioux City, IA. He grew up and attended school in Hinton graduating from Hinton High School with the Class of 1945. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served during WWII until his honorable discharge.

On July 19, 1947, Don married Ardyce "Ardie" Spies and to this union three children were born. Don was a lifelong resident of Hinton and owned Arndt's Garage with his brother Gordon for 42 years until retiring in 1989.

Don enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, bowling, golfing (had several hole-in-ones), and attending his family's sporting events. Above all, he loved his family deeply and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a member of the American Legion Casper Post 477, Hinton United Methodist Church and had served on the Hinton School Board for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Ardie of Hinton; two daughters: Janie (Ken) Beaulieu of Dakota Dunes, SD and Rhonda (Doug) Kovarna of Hinton; four grandchildren: Tal Kovarna (Todd Plummer) of Sioux City, IA, K.C. (Jessica) Beaulieu of McCook Lake, SD, Wendi (Rob) Meister of Burt, IA and Matt (Amanda) Beaulieu of Dakota Dunes, SD; twelve great grandchildren: Megan, Jaiden and Gage Beaulieu, Jacob, Addyson and Nate Beaulieu, Lauren and Carter Kovarna, and Andrew, Mackenzie, Madison and Bailey Meister; one brother, Gordon (Doris) Arndt of Hinton; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Thomas Don Arndt; and one sister, Shirley (Albert) Miller.
