Donald M. Richards, 85, of Cheyenne, Wyoming died April 26 at United Medical Center-West after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

He was born March 22, 1919, in Blackwell, Okla., and had lived here since the 1950s.

In 1938, Mr. Richards graduated from Perry, Okla., High School, where he met his future wife, Helen Wakeman. They were married Oct. 22, 1939.

He started working for the Union Pacific Railroad on Sept. 14, 1942. He was drafted into the Army on June 3, 1944. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 25, 1945, and then returned to the Union Pacific Railroad until his retirement on June 3, 1979. Mr. Richards loved to hunt and fish and taught these sports to many.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Richards of Cheyenne; a daughter-in-law, Wanda Richards; a grandson, Donald Richards; a special niece, Cynthia Kauffman and Little Buddy; and caregiver, Jim Conine.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Eva Richards; two sons, Larry Richards and Scott Richards; a grandson, Gary Richards; and a sister, Maxine.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes with the Rev. Roger Rapp officiating.
