Niece of Mary Lincoln and cousin to Robert Todd Lincoln- one of the last
Todd's to have personally known, Robert Todd Lincoln.
For her wedding gown, Louisa Todd wore a white corded bengaline dress
with a full court train, which Mary Lincoln had purchased for her in
Europe. Before leaving for Europe in 1868, Mary Lincoln had asked the
then twelve year old Louisa, what she wanted from Europe. It was decided
that she would bring her a set of coral, but Mary later pruchased this
beautiful gown in England and determined to save it for Louisa. To
preserve it, Mary packed it in waxed paper, and brought it back with her
in 1871. Louisa married in 1876.
Mary also purchased a traveling dress of gray plaid camel's hair with
pinstripes of blue for her.
