PORT NORRIS STARTLED
DEATH OF A PROMINENT RESIDENT
Richard W. Robbins, Well-Known and Greatly Respected, Dies Suddenly of Heart Disease
Port Norris was thrown into a state of excitement last evening, in the announcement of the sudden death of Richard W. Robbins, which took place about ten o'clock in the evening at his residence in that village. Mr. Robbins had been down to Long Reach in the afternoon, ate some oysters and went home. After eating a hearty supper, he went to bed and about ten o'clock his wife heard a gurgling sound. She got up and lighted a lamp to see what the matter was and to her horror found him dead. Heart disease is supposed to be the cause.
Mr. Robbins, well known throughout the county, was about sixty years of age and was a native of Port Norris. He spent his entire life in that village, and has been the means of building up that place more than any one person there. He was a local preacher and often filled the place of an absent minister, and very acceptably, too. At one time he led the van in the wealth of that place. He was a hard worker. His enemies were few, in fact no one was an enemy, and he was always well spoken of by his fellowmen, and leaves an exceedingly large circle of friends to mourn his loss; many will long cherish the memory of one who has been a guiding star among them.
Due notice of the funeral will be given.
